Buoyant Heaving Lines

Buoyant heaving lines, throwing lines (15m – 30m long) that float, are a requirement for most boats. They must be one full length, appropriate to the vessel size, be readily accessible, and only used as safety equipment. They should be maintained regularly and everyone on the boat should practice how to use them.

Minimum required length

  • Minimum required length of the buoyant heaving line is 15 meters for all pleasure craft under 24 meters (78’9”)
  • Minimum required length of the buoyant heaving line is 30 meters for all pleasure craft over 24 meters (78’9”).
