Reboarding Devices

Every vessel with a freeboard (i.e. the vertical height that must be climbed to re-board the boat from the water) over 0.5m must have an appropriate reboarding device. That is a simple method to enable an individual to re-board the vessel in case of falling overboard. (Portable ladder, heavy rope for a step, etc.)

Requirements for a reboarding device

A transom ladder or swim platform ladder meets requirement in Canada.

The reboarding device must obviously be appropriate to the type of pleasure craft.

The vessel’s propulsion unit can never be used in gaining access to the vessel from the water.
